The Maplewood Zoning Board is scheduled to hear an appeal for a variance “to construct an addition to the rear of the existing building to add six new residential units over parking” for 9 Highland Place in Maplewood Village at its September 2 meeting.

The applicant is Ridgewood Highland Place LLC. The 6 units would be added to a one-story building that faces the municipal parking lot and does not have frontage on Highland Place.

A letter dated April 30, 2020, notes that the applicant’s original proposal was rejected by the ZBA as the units were not located “over stores.” The applicant has returned to appeal the application. The proposed project would include 10 parking spaces, four of which are “new” and two of which would be publicly available.

The ZBA meeting begins at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2020.
