The Columbia High School Scholarship Fund (CHSSF) will celebrate its 103 year of supporting CHS graduates with its annual Red & Black Party fundraiser on Friday, September 25.
According to the CHSSF trustees, the fund, which was established in 1923 with the mission to provide need-based financial assistance to CHS graduates for any type of post-secondary education, has award more than $3.9 million to several thousand students.
“In the past 25 years alone, CHSSF has awarded 2,361 scholarships totaling over $3.36 million to CHS graduates pursuing post-secondary education—ultimately offsetting, we estimate, nearly $4.5 million in student debt,” according the CHSSF invitation.
Just last spring CHSSF awarded a record total of $290,000 to 165 seniors and CHS graduates.
“We had the all-time highest number of applicants and money awarded,” CHSSF President Madeline Tugentman said at a reception for scholarship recipients and donors on June 11.
Each year, the CHSSF hosts its fundraising party, inviting people to wear red and black for an evening of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres to raise money to benefit graduates and future graduates. Tickets are $125 per person and CHSSF asks that those who plan to attend RSVP by September 17.
