National Night Out 2015South Orange and Maplewood are gearing up for the annual National Night Out against crime on Tuesday, August 4. This is always a very popular event in both towns, and brings the community together to learn about public safety.

National Night Out began in 1984, and it promotes various crime prevention programs including: neighborhood watch groups, neighbor home security surveys, bike registration, and crime prevention tips.

For the public, it’s a fun way to enjoy a night of games, movies, food and activities while meeting their local public safety folks.

In Maplewood, the Police Department invites the public to join them at DeHart Park (120 Burnett Avenue) from 6-9 p.m.

The event is free and will include food, drinks, music, video game truck, bounce house, dunk tank and other activities. A police car, fire truck, and an ambulance will be on display. Participants will be able to register bicycles and sign up for home security surveys.

South Orange National Night Out will be at Flood’s Hill from 6:30 – 10 p.m. The event kicks off with live music from “Aisle Five,” and also features a public safety fair, Kids Zone with inflatables and activities, free giveaways, plus food vendors.

At 8:30 p.m., enjoy a showing of BIG HERO 6 under the stars. Have some popcorn and cotton candy – and remember to bring a blanket and lawn chairs!
