The South Orange – Maplewood School District is hosting a community Education Summit on Tuesday, November 10 from 7-9:30 p.m. at Columbia High School.
The evening will begin in the auditorium with an introduction by Superintendent Dr. John J. Ramos, Sr..
Participants will choose an issue to discuss in a smaller group session. These facilitated groups will discuss priorities and possible actions to move that issue forward. The data collected in these small groups will be used to develop the Strategic Plan moving forward.
“Once we organize the topics list, we will circulate them to the community, along with information about the logistics,” said district spokeswoman Suzanne Turner. “…each topic room will have a facilitator and a scribe. The scribes will all have the same form to keep track of key ideas, issues, recommendations and challenges. These notes will then be compiled into a compendium of all the ideas, issues, recommendations and challenges shared at the summit.”
Around 20 topics will be discussed at the meeting; topics will include:
- Innovative Approaches to Learning
- The Achievement Gap
- Global Education
- Gifted & Talented
- School Safety
- Special Education
