CHS Community:
The Maplewood Police Department has lifted the lockdown, which was prompted by technical work being done on system lines. They have assured us that there was not a threat to student or staff safety at any time. Classes resumed at noon.
We appreciate the full support of the Maplewood Police Department in responding to the alarm, and the cooperation of our students and staff in following appropriate lockdown procedures.

UPDATE: The Maplewood Police released an alert on Feb. 4 at 12:19 p.m. confirming: “NO EMERGENCY at CHS.” All police units are clear.
Update: Feb. 4, 11:58 a.m.: Students were let back into their classrooms at 11:58 a.m., according to one freshman. Ms. Aaron said she appreciated students’ cooperation.
This message was just received from the Maplewood Police Department:
Advisory: The Maplewood PD is investigating a lockdown alarm at CHS. It is being investigated as a possible false alarm or system error.
The Village Green has reached out to Columbia High School administration and the South Orange-Maplewood School District for further information.
At 11:40, the following email was sent by the district:
CHS Community:
A “lockdown” was activated this morning at Columbia High School. All students are safely sheltered and we are looking forward to resuming our schedule for lunch and the rest of our academic day shortly. Maplewood Police are on-site and routine inspections and procedures are being followed. Additional details will be provided as soon as they are available.
