Maplewood resident Lee Navlen was honored in Los Angeles Saturday night by the Los Angeles Web-Series Festival — LA-WEBFEST — board of directors by winning the best lead actor award in a comedic web-series.

Navlen, who writes and stars in the series “Goodstein,” portrays Jonathan Goodstein, a New Jersey attorney who constantly finds trouble, mainly due to his excess marijuana smoking.

“With 60-something nominees in the best actor category, I didn’t realistically think I had a chance. I’m glad I was wrong!”

Navlen created the Goodstein character during seminars hosted by author Judith Lindbergh at the Writer’s Circle.

“Judith always warned me not to shy away from the content I wanted. That’s been hugely important.”

Former South Orange resident Connie Romano, who plays Goodstein’s wife in the series, was also in attendance at the 2015 web-fest.

“I am so proud of Lee, winning this award is tremendous. Of course, I too should have been nominated. I blame the writer (Lee) for not giving me enough lines!”

Along with the best actor in a comedic series nomination, “Goodstein” was also nominated for best comedic web-series and Navlen was also nominated for best writer in a Web-Series.

“Digital content is still in its embryonic stages of development as far as finding audiences. That’s growing each and every day. I’m glad Goodstein is helping lead the way,” Navlen says.
