“There is always room at the Rent Party table,” says Rent Party VP In-Charge of Mojo Bill Ehlers. “We’re very excited about the Maplewood Police Department Toy Drive and our friends from Artists Mentoring Group being part of the show on Wednesday night’s show.”
In addition to Rent Party’s traditional Thanksgiving Eve event, with live musical performances by Rebecca Turner, Mood Ring and Fairmont, attendees can help support two very worthwhile causes.
The Maplewood Policemen’s Benevolent Associations Local 44 and 44A are participating in a holiday Toy Drive to distribute toys to less fortunate children in the community this season.
“As this program fits squarely with the community oriented philosophy of the Maplewood Police Department, I emphatically endorse the PBA Local 44 and 44A’s participation in the Toy Drive Program,” wrote Chief Robert J. Cimino in a letter announcing the program.
Artist Mentoring Group (AMG) fosters the art skills and abilities of students with a myriad of disabilities. Students receive art instruction, assistance on furthering their social skills and self-esteem, as well as business guidance for becoming artists by profession, forging friendships and helping each other by building on their strengths and compensating for their weaknesses. In addition to displaying original artwork by their students, AMG will be selling handcrafted items created by their students.
Since October 2009, Rent Party has hosted live music events, with the proceeds being used to help fight hunger in Maplewood/South Orange. Last month they moved the shows to The Woodland (60 Woodland Road, Maplewood). The first 100 attendees at Wednesday’s show who make a $10 donation will receive copies of the Rent Party 5th Anniversary Collection and Turner’s Slow Pokes CDs.
“Thanksgiving Eve is always a special night for us,” says Ehlers. “The fact that we can help-out to other great local causes makes it even better!”
