Brian Stokes Mitchell, Tony Award-winning actor and singer who has been called “Broadway’s Last Leading Man” by The New York Times, will headline this year’s South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) Annual Gala Concert Performance.

The event will be held Saturday, May 30. Tickets will go on sale soon.

Stokes, whose rich baritone has been lighting up Broadway musicals since the early 1990s, will perform songs from his critically-acclaimed album, “Simply Broadway.” Read more about Mitchell and his illustrious career, from SOPAC’s website:

Brian Stokes Mitchell has enjoyed a rich and varied career on Broadway, television, and film, along with special appearances with venerated conductors and orchestras in some of the greatest American concert venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Brian Stokes Mitchell has also been invited to the White House and has performed for Presidents Clinton and Obama.

He headlined the Carnegie Hall concert presentation of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific with Reba McEntire, which aired on PBS in the Spring of 2006 and his Broadway career includes performances in Man of La Mancha (Tony Award-nominee and Helen Hayes Award-winner); Kiss Me Kate (Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Award-winner); Ragtime (Tony Award-nominee); August Wilson’s King Hedley II (Tony Award-nominee); Kiss of the Spider Woman; Jelly’s Last Jam; David Merrick’s Oh, Kay!; and Mail, which earned him a Theatre World Award for Outstanding Broadway Debut.

In 2010, Brian Stokes Mitchell returned to Broadway as the philandering Ivan in Lincoln Center Theatre’s production of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. In Encores! at New York City Center, he has starred in Do, Re, Mi; Carnival; and Kismet. In 1998 he was the sole recipient of that year’s Distinguished Performance Award from the Drama League, the nation’s oldest theatrical honor, for his performance in Ragtime and joined the likes of previous Award-winners Helen Hayes, Sir John Gielgud, Alec Guinness, and James Earl Jones.

Brian Stokes Mitchell’s long television and film career began with a seven year run on Trapper John, MD. and it has continued most recently with appearances on Glee as one of Rachel Berry’s (Lea Michele) two dads alongside Jeff Goldblum, One Last Thing which debuted at Toronto’s 2005 Film Festival, recurring roles on Crossing Jordan and Frasier, PBS’ Great Performances, DreamWorks’ The Prince of Egypt, and his White House debut in The Singer and the Song.
