The much anticipated annual Maplewood Memorial Day Parade is canceled for 2016, due to a forecast for heavy rain throughout Monday, May 30.

Instead, the Township of Maplewood is moving the remembrance ceremony that follows the parade indoors at Town Hall, 574 Valley Street. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m.

The Memorial Day Duck Race, which usually follows the parade and ceremony, has likewise been moved indoors — in this case, to The Woodland at 60 Woodland Road. Raffles, games, prizes, a DJ and more will greet those who trek out in the soggy weather. The event is being organized by the South Mountain YMCA.

Meanwhile, the South Orange Memorial Day Remembrance has NOT been canceled, although the event has been scaled back. A wreath will be laid in remembrance of fallen soldiers at Memorial Rock at the southwest end of the Duck Pond in South Orange at 10:30 a.m.
