Meeting Emergency Needs with Dignity, Inc. (MEND), the oldest and largest interfaith anti-hunger coalition of food pantries in Essex County, is celebrating its 35th anniversary.

Since 1980, more than 1.5 million Essex County neighbors have passed through MEND’s doors to obtain non-perishable and perishable items to feed their families. In 2014, MEND pantries served 95,000 individuals.

MEND will celebrate its 35th anniversary by honoring Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr., as well as Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark, and WhyHunger, for their support of MEND. MEND will also recognize the work of the 18 interfaith food pantries within its network — including the work of St. Joseph’s Church in Maplewood and Our Lady of Sorrows in South Orange.

To celebrate — and raise funds — MEND will be hosting a cocktail and dinner reception at The Newark Club on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $125 per person.

Donations, ad journal and sponsorship opportunities are available to support MEND and its network of food pantries.
