With more snow in the forecast, locals may soon be out shoveling again.
But if shoveling your driveway is becoming too arduous, the men of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity at Seton Hall University would like to help.
This winter, and hopefully for winters to come, the fraternity is organizing an initiative to help seniors and others in need in South Orange (perhaps expanding to other towns in future years). These men will shovel your driveway and walkways in the event of a snowstorm. All you have to do is ask.
Sign up for this service if you have a disability, limited mobility, or no one in your household is physically able to shovel. Alpha Sigma Phi would like to help everybody, but 68 men cannot help all 1700+ residents of South Orange who are over the age of 65. Please be patient as this is their first year of this initiative.
Volunteers will have shovels, but the more the merrier to make the job quicker. If you have shovels, please volunteer them for use so they can better shovel your driveway. Volunteers will be sure to return your shovels before they leave. “Salt” or other ice-melters will NOT be provided by the fraternity. If you would like your walkways salted, you must supply your own, but they will gladly spread it for you. Volunteers also will not enter homes for any reason.
This service is completely FREE. The men of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity strive to embody their second value of Charity and look forward to serving the community.
