This fall, four candidates are vying for three seats on the 9-member South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education: Trish Azeez, Liz Callahan, Kevin Diaz, and Will Meyer. Village Green is posting endorsements for candidates from current and former elected officials who hold or held townwide office or higher, as well as endorsements by local organizations. We ask that endorsers coordinate with candidates for full guidelines. Read more election coverage here.

Will Meyer, Liz Callahan and Kevin Diaz
To the editor:
This year, South Orange and Maplewood benefit from a contested election for the Board of Education. We owe thanks to all four candidates for their willingness to serve our community. I will be voting for Liz Callahan, Kevin Diaz, and Will Meyer on November 3rd. Here’s why:
Liz and Will have worked diligently during their term. In recent years, many talented people have stepped up to serve on the Board, only to decide not to run for reelection after their three year term is up. I am glad Liz and Will have chosen to continue to serve– continuity and institutional memory can help the Board make better decisions.
Kevin, through his campaign, has demonstrated qualities that will make him a good addition to the Board—he’s worked hard, not merely on campaigning, but on understanding the challenges the School District faces. He’s a good listener and expresses disagreement respectfully—important qualities for a Board of Education member.
The SO-M School District represents the bulk of spending and taxing for our residents—your vote for who represents us is important! Please join me in voting for Liz Callahan, Kevin Diaz, and Will Meyer to serve on the South Orange Maplewood Board of Education.
