Youth Arrested After Harrassing SO Library Workers

A 14-year old Newarker was arrested on June 17 after harrassing South Orange Public Library staffers and refusing to leave the premises. South Orange police took him into custody when they responded and he resisted being escorted from the premises.

Criminal mischief
A West Orange resident stated that he had parked his vehicle (1997 Toyota) in the Transit lot adjacent to Church St. on Friday 6-20-14 at approximately 5:00pm and when he returned to it a few hours later he discovered that some unknown actor(s) has slashed the front and rear passenger’s side tires.

Attempted theft of vehicle
A West South Orange Ave. resident stated that sometime during the overnight hours of Sunday 6-15-14 an unknown actor(s) had attempted to remove his vehicle (2003 Audi) from his driveway by breaking the ignition to same.

Juvenile arrest
A 14 year old Newark resident was arrested on Monday 6-16-14 at approximately 5:50pm after officers responded to the South Orange Public Library on a report of an unruly juvenile that was refusing to leave the premises and was harassing employees. Officers responded to the scene and attempted to escort the juvenile from the premises at which time the juvenile refused to comply. The juvenile was arrested at the scene, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

Theft of vehicle
A Lenox Ave. resident stated that sometime during the overnight hours of Sunday 6-15-14 an unknown actor(s) had removed her 2014 Lexus from her driveway. The vehicle was left unlocked and the keys to same were left inside. The vehicle was recovered a few hours later in the city of Orange. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Theft/arrest
Samuel Jean, a 21 year old Irvington resident was arrested on Monday 6-9-14 at approximately 3:45pm after officers responded to the area of Raymond Ave. on a call of a juvenile who’s cell phone was stolen by an unknown actor who asked to use same and then fled. Officers canvassing the area located the subject running through a rear yard on Connett Pl. and was subsequently arrested. The subject was in possession of the juvenile’s phone at the time of the stop.

Burglary to dwelling
A Holland Rd. resident stated that sometime during the day on 6-5-14 an unknown actor(s) had entered her dwelling by breaking out a rear first floor window. Once inside the dwelling the actor ransacked several bedroom removing jewelry and two laptops. During the on-scene investigation at 2:30pm a neighbor/witness stated that at approximately 9:30am she observed a dark skinned black male climb out of the victim’s window carrying a large black plastic bag. The neighbor stated she observed the subject walk east down Kenmore Ave. into the city of Newark. The Police department had not been notified of the neighbor’s observations until the time of the report which was the homeowner’s arrival. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Theft
A Newark resident stated that on Saturday 6-7-14 at approximately 7:00pm she had her wallet removed from her shopping cart as she was loading groceries into her vehicle while at the Pathmark located on Valley St.
