South Orange Police Arrest Newark Teen for Western Dr. N. Theft

South Orange Police arrested a 16-year-old from Newark on Monday at approximately 12:40 pm after a homeowner on Western Dr. North saw the teen ring his doorbell then walk down his driveway, according to the police blotter. Police caught the teen after he attempted to run away through several backyards. While searching the teen, police allegedly found an item belonging to the resident that was stolen during a recent burglary to his home. The teen was remanded to the Essex County Youth House in Newark. The investigation is on-going at this time.

Theft/Police pursuit
On Wednesday 1-13-16 at approximately 2:30am an officer on routine patrol observed a suspicious vehicle (red Jeep Cherokee) in the driveway of a residence on Western Dr. North. The actor upon observing the officer fled the scene in the vehicle driving over the resident’s front lawn. The officer pursued the vehicle for several blocks terminating the pursuit on Academy St. The vehicle was also pursued by neighboring police agencies into the city of Irvington were the pursuit was also terminated. The on-scene investigation determined that the actor was attempting to steal the wheels to the victim’s vehicle (2016 Jeep Wrangler). Recovered at the scene was a cinderblock that was going to be used after jacking the vehicle up to remove the wheels. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Theft of lottery tickets
A victim stated that on 1-12-16 at approximately 3:22pm she purchased $108 worth of lottery tickets at an establishment on Irvington Ave. The victim stated that she left the store and realized she left the tickets on the counter. After returning she discovered an unknown actor had slipped the tickets into his pocket and fled the store.

Theft from vehicle
A Seton Pl. resident stated that sometime between 4:30pm on Sunday 1-10-16 and 8:00am the following day an unknown actor(s) had entered his unlocked vehicle (2014 Infinity) and removed an Apple I-Pod. The vehicle was parked in the driveway at the time of the incident.

Burglary to vehicle
A Ridgewood Rd. resident stated that sometime during the evening or overnight hours of Friday 1-8-16 an unknown actor(s) had entered the victim’s vehicle (2001 BMW) and ransacked the console area. No items were removed during the incident and the vehicle was parked in the driveway at the time.

Theft from vehicle
A Raymond Ave. resident stated that sometime around 9:00pm on 1-8-16 an unknown actor(s) had entered his unlocked vehicle (2011 Mercedes) and removed approximately $10 in coins. The vehicle was parked in the driveway at the time of the incident.

Burglary to dwelling
A Richmond Ave. resident stated that sometime between 10:30am and 1:10pm on Sunday 1-10-16 an unknown actor(s) had gained entry into her residence by forcing open a wooden panel on a side door. Once inside the residence the actor(s) preceded to ransack the second floor bedrooms. It is unknown at the time of the report what items had been stolen. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Theft from vehicle
A Cumberland Rd. resident stated that sometime during the evening or overnight hours of 1-9-16 an unknown actor(s) had gained entry into her unlocked vehicle (2009 Volvo) and removed a small amount of change. The vehicle was parked in the driveway at the time of the incident.

Burglary to dwelling
A Western Dr. resident stated that sometime between 11:00pm and midnight on Saturday 1-9-16 an unknown actor(s) had entered his residence via an unlocked rear door and removed an Apple I-pad, a keyboard and keys to his vehicle that were in the kitchen area. The actor(s) upon exiting the residence ransacked his vehicle with was parked in the driveway. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Burglary to apartment
A Halsey Pl. resident stated that sometime between 6:00pm on Friday 1-8-16 and 6:00pm on Saturday 1-9-16 an unknown actor(s) had entered his apartment (carriage house) via an unlocked door and removed a 9mm pistol, cash and a container of coins. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Theft from vehicle
A So. Ridgewood Rd. resident stated that sometime between 8:00pm and 9:30pm on Friday 1-8-16 an unknown actor entered her unlocked vehicle and removed a pink coach wallet containing credit cards, personal identification and cash. The actor also removed an I-phone which was left inside the vehicle.

Warrant arrest
Rahman Washington, a 47 year old Bloomfield resident was arrested on Friday 1-8-16 at approximately 3:50pm after the subject was observed soliciting on Sloan St. without a permit. During the on-scene investigation it was discovered that the subject had an outstanding warrant issued for his arrest out of Bloomfield. The subject was arrested at the scene, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

Criminal mischief
A So. Ridgewood Rd. resident stated that sometime during the overnight hours of Friday 1-8-16 an unknown actor(s) had smashed in the rear window to her neighbor’s vehicle (2012 Honda). The vehicle was parked in the driveway at the time of the incident.

Criminal mischief
A Ridgewood Rd. resident stated that sometime between 11:15am on 1-7-16 and 5:30am on 1-8-16 an unknown actor(s) smashed an electric walkway lantern that was situated on the front of his property. The actor(s) had apparently picked up a stone from the victim’s property and used same to damage the lantern.

COUNTERFEIT BILLS
**********POLICE INFORMATION********** Be advised that recently there have been some attempts by individuals to pass counterfeit bills ($20,$50,$100) in local establishments throughout the village. Merchants should take all possible measures to determine especially large bills that they are in fact authentic. Merchants and or residents should contact the police department as quickly as possible in order to aid the officers in conducting an on-scene investigation of the suspected fraudulent activity.

1/7/2016
Burglary to dwelling/theft of vehicle
A So. Centre St. resident stated that sometime during the night an unknown actor(s) had entered his residence which is shared with other roommates and removed car keys which were placed in the living room area. After removing the keys the actor exited the dwelling and stole the victim’s vehicle (2002 Infinity) which was parked in the driveway. The actor(s) had also moved another vehicle that was parked in the driveway. There were no signs of a forced entry to the rear door to which it is believed the actor(s) had entered. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Burglary to dwelling
A Centre St. resident stated that sometime between 6:00pm on 1-5-16 and 7:15pm on 1-6-15 an unknown actor(s) had entered his dwelling by forcing open his front door. Once inside the residence the unknown actor(s) preceded to the second floor and removed large containers of coins and two watches. The victim stated he was away out of state at the time of the incident. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
