Columbia High School will, for the first time in its history, graduate students in August.

Acting Superintendent James Memoli announced the “special ceremony” as part of his monthly update to the Board of Education on Monday, July 20.

Those students who weren’t able to complete classes and credits in time for the June graduation, and who have spent the summer working at CHS to recover credits, will receive their diplomas on August 19.

The number of students graduating is not yet known.

“We are so proud of our August graduates, who are spending a few more weeks finishing their high school requirements for a New Jersey and Columbia High School diploma,” said CHS Principal Elizabeth Aaron in an email. “High school graduation is an important milestone and we are looking forward to celebrating it with them at our August ceremony. Their caps and gowns are already hanging in our offices to be wrinkle-free and their 2015 tassels are waiting to be worn!”
