To the Editor:

There are nine candidates running for three seats on the Board of Education this November.  Madhu Pai, Wayne Eastman and Margaret (Peggy) Freedson are the team to vote for.  They are each highly qualified, reasonable and have a long track record of dedication to education. Madhu Pai is a communications specialist who is currently the BOE first vice president and the chair of the Communications, Engagement and Outreach Committee.  Wayne Eastman is a professor of Business Ethics. He has been on the BOE since 2006 and his fellow board members elected him president of the BOE in January 2015. Margaret, (Peggy) Freedson has an Ed. D in Language and Literacy from Harvard.  She started her career as a bilingual elementary school teacher and now teaches teachers Language Arts and literacy education at Montclair State University.

Together, Pai, Eastman and Freedson have formulated a clear vision of and pathway to an improved school district.  They support increased access to honors and AP classes and more choice for students and parents.  They believe in fiscal responsibility and creativity in controlling costs while supporting our educational programs and teachers.  They champion Jeff Bennett’s work to improve state funding to our district.  They are dedicated to improving curriculum to provide more challenge in elementary and middle school with the intention of preparing all students for a global future.  They support the new superintendent, Dr. Ramos, and his plan to improve communications.  They intend to protect and improve special services for students with disabilities, English as a second language learners and gifted and talented students.  To learn more, please visit their website www.boe2015.com .
