With the deadline to file ending Monday, nine candidates have declared their intention to throw their hats into the ring for the South Orange – Maplewood Board of Education election.

There are three seats up for election this year. Incumbents Wayne Eastman and Madhu Pai have said they are running again; they are joined on a ticket by newcomer Margaret Freedson. (The third seat will be vacant as incumbent Jeff Bennett has declared he will not seek re-election).

Local residents Elissa Malespina, Marian Raab and Shannel Roberts also announced their joint campaign Monday. Last Friday, Chris Sabin and Annemarie Maini declared their ticket.

According to the Essex County Clerk, Dorcas Lind has also filed to run. The Village Green has reached out to Lind for more information on her campaign.

The election is November 3.
