The following is from Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel:
Sharey Tefilo-Israel Senior Youth (STISY), the youth group of Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI), recently held a Mitzvah Madness program as part of its social action agenda. A featured project was Arthur’s Pickals, created by Maplewood resident Arthur Cohen, who was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) in 2014. Cohen and his wife created the non-profit organization PickALS, through which they sell jars of homemade pickles from Cohen’s special family recipe. Mitzvah Madness participants included Wesley Gelman (left) of Short Hills and Izzy Cotenoff (center) of Maplewood, pictured here with Arthur Cohen (right). Participants sliced cucumbers, chopped garlic and dill, and added other special ingredients to create 120 jars of Pickals, which will be distributed to raise awareness of the debilitating disease.
