On Saturday, November 29, friends, CHS alumni, players, former players and their families are invited to honor Marguerite (Marge) Dempsey at a retirement party.

Dempsey, a Maplewood Middle School physical education teacher, is retiring as the girls varsity lacrosse coach after more than 25 years. Besides being beloved by her players and their families, Dempsey has been much honored: For example, in 2009, she received an Award of Honor from the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, and, in 2000, she was named Coach of the Year by the National Federation Coaches Association. Dempsey has helped many of her team members become High School All-Americans.

As a CHS grad, Dempsey has also been inducted into the Columbia High School Sports Hall of Fame for her exceptional career in basketball and softball.

On Saturday, November 29, a party will be held for Dempsey at a private home from 3-7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Organizers wanted to put the word out on The Village Green to help gather as many former players, their families and all-around Marge fans as possible. Those interested in participating should contact Janet Crane at janetmcrane@gmail.com.
