Liz Callahan said her goal as chair of the BOE’s Special Education committee moving forward was “to remain committed to ensuring that students and teachers are at the heart of these discussions while supporting the district in intentional, well-structured planning that does reflect the evolving educational landscape.”

The WebEx meeting announcement comes amid concerns from students, parents and teachers that some courses will be offered every other year or cut.

“It’s what CHS is all about. Amazing course offerings that allow students to grow and engage in ways they never would have otherwise,” say the co-leaders of the Shakespeare Festival Club.

Superintendent Jason Bing: “Our work has been less around reducing and more around alternating years, combining and streamlining those courses that have had consistently low enrollment over a three-year period.”

Citing timing and budget concerns, BOE member Regina Eckert reported that the district would delay posting the job until the next budget year is discussed.

“You’ve got the bones,” said consultant Patrick Keenoy. “Now it’s just a matter of putting those pieces around it.”

Vicky Johnson says her granddaughter was “traumatized” by her experience at Columbia High School, and is worried that special ed students get “lost between the cracks.”

Bing said revamping math is a “major change” and noted “the resources and curriculum we were using were fine 10 years ago but are not fine for students now.”
