The Star-Ledger/NJ.com’s Peter Genovese and his Munchmobile have been making a lot of news in Maplewood and at the Park Wood Diner lately.

First, the Park Wood on Springfield Avenue won the North Jersey readers’ pick for best diner, then Genovese came for a visit. Next, Park Wood made the cut for top 10 best diners in all of New Jersey. Genovese came back again for a visit this week.

Today, he published his review.

Some highlights:

The moussaka — “the presentation begged for it to be eaten.” The Greek salad was “big and robust,” and the chocolate mousse and “gravity-defying” lemon meringue pie were singled out. Genovese and his Munchmobile companions also highlighted the split pea soup, matzoh ball soup, chicken pot pie, grilled reuben, ham and cheese omelet, warm goat cheese salad and more.

The overall take-away?

“Why this diner can win it all: Warm hospitality; friends and first-timers feel equally at home. Excellent salads and top-notch comfort food; try the chicken pot pie and rack of lamb.”

Readers can watch live on NJ.com when Genovese announces the winning Best Diner in New Jersey by walking in the door, unannounced, next Thursday, Dec. 17, “at exactly noon.”

NJ.com will also crown a Readers’ Choice winner. Voting ends 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, and you can vote once per day. Vote here.
