Maplewood’s Park Wood Diner on Springfield Avenue won first place in a recent online readers poll for “Best Diner in North Jersey,” hosted by NJ.com.

The result is both a testament to the tremendous affection Maplewoodians feel for their hometown diner as we as to the social media savvy of local residents.

Park Wood beat out the next closest competitor — Prestige Diner in New Providence — by nearly 500 votes, and was the only North Jersey diner to garner more than 3,000 votes. Voting ran for one week and closed at midnight, November 12. (See full poll results here.)

So what do we (and the Park Wood) win for our troubles?

NJ.com‘s Munchmobile writer Peter Genovese will be visiting all top five regional vote-getters as well as 20 diners of his own choosing starting Tuesday, November 17. (On Monday, you can check his day-by-day itinerary of visits at NJ.com.) After the visits are completed in early December, Genovese will pick ten finalists, which he will then visit with a group of lucky readers aboard the Munchmobile (watch NJ.com for details on how to be eligible).

Updates can be found starting Tuesday at NJ.com/jerseysbest. Genovese will also be sharing updates via Twitter (@petegenovese), Instagram (themunchmobile) and Facebook at www.facebook.com/Munchmobile. Follow the conversation on social media using the hashtag #njsbest.
