The Maplewood Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) invites all Maplewood residents to join the annual Rahway River Cleanup on Sunday, May 3 from 10am-2pm.

RahwayRiverCleanupimage1Volunteers will meet participants at two locations, the high school parking lot and also near the Civic House in Memorial Park off of Dunnell Road, to hand out gloves and trashbags. Waterproof shoes are suggested, as litter is cleaned from both the banks of the river and from the water.

“In addition to making the river as lovely as it can be as it flows through our town, this annual cleanup is a critical measure for the river’s wildlife,” said Tracey Woods of the EAC. “Birds and fish are highly impacted by litter in the river.”

The event coincides with South Orange’s annual River Day, where South Orange residents will join together to clean up its section of the river.
