The South Orange Rescue Squad announced it has won a $25,000 grant from State Farm’s Neighborhood Assist program to complete their new headquarters.

The South Orange’s all-volunteer squad was selected into the top 200 organizations — out of more than 4,000 applicants— eligible to win one of 40 $25,000-grants as part of the State Farm Neighborhood Assist program.

The squad asked the community to vote to help it win the grant, and the community responded.

Here is a message posted on the SORS’s Facebook page Tuesday:

We can finally announce that we have won the $25,000 Neighborhood Assist Grant from State Farm. Thank you very much for all of your help in getting us there.

More than 4,000 applications were submitted and from those we were chosen to be in the top 200. It was then the support of the community that pushed us to the top of the list and ensured that we were among the top 40 causes– each of which will get a $25,000 grant.

During what felt like 3 endless weeks of voting, we were blown away by the way the community rallied around us to push us over the top. Thank you! This is a much needed grant and will be put to very good use so that we can continue to provide the residents of South Orange and Maplewood with free Emergency Medical care.
