Six months after the downtown South Orange fire that destroyed two buildings and displaced residents and three businesses, Gladys Nail Salon will soon be returning to South Orange.
According to a post on Gladys Nail Salon’s social media, the nail salon will be returning to South Orange in October at 154 Valley Street, which is the former Elitist Coffee space at Third and Valley, above the Rock Spa Club.
“We’re almost there, South Orange!” the salon’s Instagram post reads. “Construction is wrapping up and we’re officially in the final stretch! We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to Gladys Nail Salon at 154 Valley Street.”
“Bigger, better and ready to serve even more of you,” they wrote in another post.
The fire, which, according to the fire inspector’s report, began on and was contained to the second floor above Chris’s Family Diner, where welding was taking place at the time, but smoke and water damage extended to the three-story building next door that housed both Ambiance Jewelers and Gladys Nail Salon.
After the fire, Gladys Nail Salon moved its South Orange business to its other location in Cranford. Ambiance Jewelers re-opened downtown in April at 76 South Orange Avenue, Suite 104. Chris’s Family Diner remains closed.
The buildings have since been demolished, and the sidewalk on that block of South Orange Avenue has been re-opened to foot traffic.
