This fall, four candidates are vying for three seats on the 9-member South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education: Trish Azeez, Liz Callahan, Kevin Diaz, and Will Meyer. Village Green is posting endorsements for candidates from current and former elected officials who hold or held townwide office or higher, as well as endorsements by local organizations. We ask that endorsers coordinate with candidates for full guidelines. Read more election coverage here.

Will Meyer, Liz Callahan and Kevin Diaz

I’m proud to support Kevin Diaz, Elizabeth Callahan and Will Meyer for the Maplewood Board of Education.

Having served almost eleven years on the Maplewood Township Committee, including two years as Mayor, I’ve seen firsthand how important experience, consistency and thoughtful decision-making are in local government. Those qualities matter just as much on our Board of Education.

I support Kevin Diaz for his advocacy on environmental issues and school facilities maintenance. Taking care of our school buildings, planning responsibly for the future and making thoughtful environmental decisions are important responsibilities that deserve continued attention.

I also support Elizabeth Callahan and Will Meyer in their bids for another term. Board members give their time and energy to an important public responsibility, and every member’s service contributes to our community. At the same time, there is real value in continuity — allowing members to build on their experience, follow through on long-term initiatives and provide consistency in decision-making. I believe returning members can help preserve that institutional knowledge while continuing to bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the table.

Public service benefits from both new voices and experienced leadership. I believe Kevin, Elizabeth and Will each bring something important to the Board, and I encourage Maplewood voters to support all three.

Our students, our schools and our community deserve thoughtful, consistent leadership.

Warm regards,

Nancy Adams Township Committeewoman
