With the announced retirement of Director of Special Services Ella Rideau, the South Orange-Maplewood School District has been working to replace Rideau by hiring a consultant to lead the search and reaching out to the community (for example, a special forum was held at Columbia High School on Nov. 3).
Yesterday, the district announced further details of the process and debuted a community survey.

Dr. Leroy Nunery of Atlantic Research Partners is the consultant selected to lead our search for the new Director of Special Education. The following timeline has been developed to lead us to a recommendation to the Board of Education:
November 3 Community invitation to meet with Dr. Nunery at Columbia High School

We are inviting the leadership of SEPAC and the SPECIAL EDUCATION PTO to each recruit a volunteer to sit on our Level I interview committee. The remaining Level I interview committee members will consist of the following: One SOMEA and ASCA representative (appointed by respective president), Special Education Teacher, Child Study Team Member, Social Worker and Supervisor of Special Education.
If you are a staff member interested in joining the Level I interview committee, please email me no later than Wednesday, November 30. The interview team will be formally invited no later than Monday, December 5.
