Fans of the Maplewoodstock Beer Garden, we’ve got good news.
Not only will the beer garden be starting earlier this year (serving to begin at noon instead of 2 p.m.), but it will be serving sangria as well as wines picked by Hank Zona of The Grapes Unwrapped.
The beer garden will be serving from noon to close on Saturday, July 9, and Sunday, July 10. Close is 10 p.m. on Saturday but probably closer to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
“Dave Hoffman’s Climax Brewery of Roselle Park is supplying the beers, as they did last year. We have arranged for a slightly different line up of brews from last time: an IPA, and ESB, a lighter Ale, and a Hefeweizen,” said Kate Cahill, who, along with Ron Housley, is organizing the volunteer teams for the beer garden along with fellow members of the South Orange Elks Club.
“Hank Zona is curating the wine and has selected a Spanish Rioja for red, and a South African sauvignon blanc for white. We are going to also try an experiment with a limited amount of sangria!” added Cahill.
Prices will remain the same as last year, with $5 and $1 tickets. “Once IDs are checked at the entry, the cashiers will sell tickets. All the beers, wines, and sangria will be available for $5/glass (one $5 ticket). A pitcher of beer is 4 tickets, and new this year we’ll sell a bottle (750ml) of white wine for 4 tickets. Given the earlier serving time of noon, we want to accommodate those who wish to have a tasty beer or wine with their lunch and beyond,” said Cahill.
All liquor must stay within the beer garden. “Of course there’s no limit on food people can bring in to the garden,” said Cahill.
Plus there will be non-alcoholic offerings: “As always, we will have half liter bottles of water for $1 tickets, as well as bags of pretzels and chips for $1 tickets as well,” said Cahill.
Although the beer garden will be in the same place as last year, the tented area will be a bit larger.
Housley and Cahill are responsible for recruiting and managing the volunteers, who can sign up for two-hour shifts at https://www.signupgenius.
All proceeds from the Beer Garden’s “Tips Jar” will be donated to two local food pantries, Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Joseph’s.
“The South Orange Elks have stepped up to match the first $250 collected in the Tips Jar,” said Cahill, but “if any other organizations would like to join in matching tips, they’d be most welcome and should contact me.” (Contact Cahill here.)
