The Messy Artist, an art studio for children and adults, will be featured on The Method on Friday, March 11, 2016. The show, which focuses on the creative process, airs on Ovation TV at 10:30pm. Started in 1999 by Donna Bernstein, and now located in East Hanover, NJ, The Messy Artist is a place where children learn and explore, create, build fine motor skills, and get messy! At The Messy Artist, art lessons for kids entertain and enrich their brains, bodies, and hearts.

The Messy Artist is featured in an episode —appropriately titled “Creative Kids” —showcasing the studio’s wide variety of artistic programming. The studio currently offers classes for kids ranging from 18 months (The Picassos) up to 7th grade (Art Foundations Intensive), in addition to birthday parties and classes for adults.

Owner Donna Bernstein from Millburn, Director of Fine Arts Viviana Maciel from Springfield, and Assistant Teacher Alexis Barckley of Livingston are featured in the program along with students and families from other local towns including: Charley Albert (age 11) of West Caldwell, Jack Berman (age 9) of West Orange, Lara Kothari and Kaya Parashurama (age 3) of Roseland, Elizabeth McCarthy and Sarah Formoso (age 15) of Belleville, Nicole and Aiden Sudol (age 2) of Towaco, and Ryan Tepper (age 10) of Livingston. Additionally, Yale Block (age 6) and Alexander (age 5) & Caroline (age 2) LaPuma of Short Hills can be seen on the show.

“It’s been an amazing 17-year journey from creating The Messy Artist to where I am today,” who is beyond proud to have her studio recognized by a show such as The Method. “It’s a joy to bring the love of art into children’s lives and watch them grow over the years,” she said.

The segment also focuses on The Artist Harvest, a public art sculpture project created by The Messy Artist’s staff and students. The Artist Harvest consists of five large-scale fruit and vegetable sculptures, each featuring their interpretation of a famous painting and named according to the artist. The pieces served to promote both healthy eating and art appreciation and were displayed around Livingston, NJ.
