Current and former women elected officials wore white to honor women’s suffrage and posed for the now traditional annual group photo.

South Mountain Y pledged to raise $355,000, the most of any branch in the Metropolitan Y of the Oranges network, said Executive Director James Goodger, who said that the Y does not turn away children or families from any of its programs for lack of ability to pay.

“We didn’t realize the impact that we apparently had here,” said David Germaine, who has operated the business for the last 50 years with his wife Ginny. “The best part of the business is the people. It makes it hard to leave.”

“Connecting Fibers: Spinners & Artists,” took place October 27 — with an encore scheduled for the SOMA Artists Studio Tour on Nov. 3.

Costs for restoring the former Woman’s Club could be offset with New Jersey historic preservation grants.

“I think we’ve both tightened up and clarified the old ordinance and made sure that there’s a full opportunity for property owners to be heard,” said Historic Preservation Commission Counsel Bill Sullivan.
