To the Editor:
I am writing in support of Stephanie Lawson-Muhammad and James Davis for the Board of Education. My husband and I have two daughters at Tuscan. Over the past few years, I have attended BOE meetings and have participated in Public Speaks events. I have consistently found myself identifying with Stephanie, and recognizing in her an ally. She is informed and capable; she has impressed me with the caliber of her service. She has worked hard to improve our schools in a host of ways.
Stephanie is passionate about important issues and speaks with honesty and frankness; She speaks to me. She speaks to me as a fellow working mom and as an official dedicated to putting in whatever effort is required to help this school district offer the best possible education for all of our kids.
I’ve gotten to know James over the past several months and have been impressed with him as well. I agree with his idea that we need a better governance process for the district. We share concerns about the excessive emphasis placed on test scores. He also knows that our district must do more to provide support to all of our children – and that needs are sure to differ widely among those children. James has strong professional and volunteer experience and above all else he’s an involved father of four kids in our district.
I trust Stephanie and James to work with Superintendent Ramos on the strategic goals for our district and to move it forward in the critical areas. I am confident in their ability to partner with their fellow board members, to continue to manage our finances, and to hold our administrators accountable while supporting our teachers in reaching our children in engaging, creative lessons that will prepare them for their futures. I hope you’ll join me in voting for them on November 8th.
Sincerely,
Ronni Schwartz
