Susan Lewis Bergin and Courtney Winkfield are running together for the South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education.

The two announced their candidacy in an emailed statement on Sunday. “[We] are pleased to announce our candidacies for South Orange Maplewood Board of Education,” they wrote. “We look forward to many conversations with our SOMA neighbors about how our school system can help all our students thrive.”

There are three full-term (three year) seats open on the BOE, and one seat with one year left after a board member stepped down in January.

The deadline to file is Monday, July 27 at 4 p.m.

Kamal Zubieta, who was appointed as an interim after Javier Farfan resigned, is not planning to run. Board member Robin Baker, whose term expires this year, said she will run for the one-year completion of Farfan’s term.

Board member Elizabeth Baker, whose term is also ending this year, said she would announce on Monday whether she plans to run again. Board member Tony Mazzocchi said in April he would not run again.

Bergin was one of three candidates who sought the interim seat vacated by Farfan in January.
