A 54 year-old man walking on Springfield Avenue on May 11 at around 7 p.m. was approached by a 17-year-old girl who tried to take his phone and punched him, said Sgt. Christopher Black of the Maplewood Police Department. When she was unsuccessful in getting the phone, a group of three men, ages 16, 17 and 20, began running towards the man, who ran across the street and called the police, said Black.
Police patrols and detectives found the four suspects on 42nd St in Irvington, and they were positively identified. Police arrested the 20-year-old, Seyquan West and the three juveniles, all Newark residents, Black said. They were taken into custody and charged with attempted robbery and conspiracy.
