Maplewood Police arrested a 19-year-old Maplewood resident and charged him with robbery and other charges in an incident in the 20’s block of Orchard Road last Wednesday. At around 5 a.m. on May 18, Dayjah Mobley allegedly broke into a home and threatened a resident with a handgun, according to Sgt. Christopher Black. After a scuffle with the home’s residents, Mobley ran away and was later found by Officer Henry Wasielewski in a backyard on Midland Blvd.
Mobley was arrested and the handgun was recovered; no life-threatening injuries were reported, Black said. Police charged Mobley with aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, criminal mischief and possession of stolen property; he was taken to the Essex County Correctional Facility, Black said. Police said their preliminary investigation suggested that the incident was not a random act.
