After Failing ‘QSAC’ 3 Years Ago, South Orange-Maplewood Gets ‘High Performing’ Designation From NJ Dept. of Education

The New Jersey Dept. of Education has given the South Orange-Maplewood School District a “high performing district” designation following its participation the NJ Quality Single Accountability Continuum (QSAC) review this year.

In a letter dated August 31 (see below), NJ DOE Assistant Commissioner, Division of Field Services Robert L. Bumpus wrote, “I am pleased to inform you that your district has satisfied at least 80% of the weighted indicators in each of the five areas of the QSAC review process and has been designated as ‘high performing.’ The Commissioner will recommend to the State Board of Education that your district be certified as providing a thorough and efficient system of education, for a period of three years or until the next QSAC review. Congratulations on this accomplishment.”

The district was evaluated on Instruction and Program (82%), Fiscal Management (100%), Governance (100%), Operations (100%) and Personnel (100%).

For the last QSAC review three years ago, “the district did not pass,” reported Interim Superintendent Dr. Thomas Ficarra at the Board of Education meeting last night.
