On Tuesday, Sept. 22, shop at the Millburn-Union Whole Foods (2245 Springfield Avenue, Vauxhall) and help support People’s Prep, a college preparatory high school in Newark that prepares low-income students for college and the workforce.
The school is partnering with Whole Foods for the store’s 5% giving day, which means that five percent of that day’s net sales will go to People’s Prep.
In 2015, 90% of the school’s first graduating class was accepted to a two- or four-year college. The mission of People’s Prep is to break the cycle of unequal education, inadequate opportunity and poverty, and to have students graduate college as “informed, involved and resilient citizens.”
People’s Prep was founded five years ago by Jessica Rooney, a South Orange resident.
