The three action items passed the first reading 8-0 with no discussion; Board member Courtney Winkfield was absent.  These policies are yet to be finalized and will be voted on after a second reading and discussion at a future meeting. 

At the heartfelt thank you and farewell to 17 SOMSD educators, retiring CHS Asst. Principal Cheryl Hewitt said of teachers: “The talent in this district is unparalleled, and if we get those systems going, we will be ahead of the game.”

The plan has been trimmed from the $1.82 million the district was originally estimating.

Brubaker has an extensive background in media and communications and as a high school social studies teacher. He was communications director of Paterson Public Schools since 2018.  

The district is facing the “unexpected” shortfall due to rises in transportation, special education and more. However, by halting all discretionary spending and dipping into next year’s fund balance, the administration is “confident” it can cover the shortfall, said Supt. Dr. Ronald Taylor.
