Former Maplewood Mayor Vic DeLuca said his Maplewood Rotary’s Citizenship Award was not achieved alone — but with the help of his wife Janey, his family, elected colleagues, township staff and more: “I want to recognize all of you for your leadership in our community.”

The Maplewood Rotary Club has announced that it will bestow its Citizenship Award on Victor DeLuca at the Annual Affair of the Heart Masquerade Ball on April 4 at the Maplewood Country Club.

Per Township Committee member Vic DeLuca, “The concept is to create two soccer fields and remove the softball field.” Presentations will be made by representatives from Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc., the consultant engineers engaged by the Township.

The bike lanes, which will extend the length of Parker from Irvington Avenue to Maplewood Avenue, could be under construction by late 2025.

“All those communities that were devastated by Tropical Storm Ida and by all the subsequent storms, they all relied on that obligation to do work,” said Township Committeeperson Vic DeLuca. “People spent money and they need to be reimbursed.”

“Health related federal programs have dropped off online,” said South Orange-Maplewood Health Officer Candice Davenport after giving an update on the H5N1 bird flu. “There has been no online access to any of us. … We’ve been relying on the state data and snapping images and screenshots.”

Photos of progress are fueling excitement for the reopening of the newly renovated, expanded and reoriented library.

The change is coming on or about December 18. The move is part of efforts to improve pedestrian safety throughout the town.

TC member Deb Engel, who seconded Adams’ nomination, said she had been courted for the Mayorship but lost votes when she failed to endorse Mikie Sherrill for NJ Governor.
