The South Orange Village Trustees will be holding a special meeting on Monday, June 29 at SOPAC to decide among several proposals for Village Hall.

Trustees will choose between three resolutions: one to award a contract for renovation of the historic building, one to name the South Orange Hotel Group as the conditional developer of the property, and one to name Landmark Hospitality Group as conditional developer.

The two adaptive re-use groups presented their plans to the public at a meeting on June 15. Read about the presentations here.

The proposals and preliminary plans for adaptive re-use of Village Hall can be found on the South Orange website here.

The video of the meeting can be found here.

The Board of Trustees is currently in negotiations with both the hotel group and the hospitality group and as such has not been able to reveal financial details for the proposals. “We’re not in a position to share financial information because we have to leverage all the tools we have to negotiate a desirable outcome,” Village President Sheena Collum told Village Green.

In response to some members of the public who have emailed and reached out via social media, Collum said that full disclosure of financial information would be made once the town reached a redevelopment agreement with a designated developer. At that time, Collum said, the agreement will go through a full vetting process including introduction to the Board of Trustees as well as a process of review by the Planning Board.

On June 29, the Board of Trustees will first go into executive session to discuss the proposals at 6:30 p.m. The public portion of the meeting will open by 8 p.m. Collum said a full document explaining the process and the meeting is forthcoming.

“This has been a very good process,” Collum told the Board of Trustees on June 22. She asked members of the public to “keep sending feedback.”

Collum can be reached at scollum@southorange.org.
