As of Friday, Feb. 12 there were still 18 garden plots available in the South Orange Community Garden, where South Orange residents can pay $70 to grow their own vegetables and flowers starting this spring.

South Orange’s all-organic community garden is located in Riverside Park on Third Street, just west of the Rahway River. There are 48 raised-bed plots in full sun where residents can grow tomatoes, lettuce, zinnias, cosmos and many other annuals.

Gardeners work together to keep the garden beautiful and donate part of their harvest to local food banks. Experienced gardeners will give you tips on how to get the most out of your garden and social events are also on the calendar. The gardening season is from April to November.

Register for the Community Garden at the Baird Center. Proof of residency is required. The fee is $70 for one plot. Only one plot per household, please.

Garden details, rules and regulations can be found HERE.

Maplewood’s community garden has a waitlist for plots. To get on the waitlist, contact the Maplewood Community Garden at contact@maplewoodcg.org.
