Seth Boyden Principal Mark Quiles has been starring in local theater productions for years but will be enjoying his first Actors Equity contracted role in 12 Miles West Theatre Company’s production of The Lion in Winter this November.

Quiles will be starring as Henry II who, for Christmas 1183 joins his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine (played by fellow Equity actor Karin Dela Pehna), their children and guests at their castle in Chinon, France, where they spar over which son will succeed to the throne.

The play by James Goldman premiered on Broadway at the Ambassador Theatre in 1966, starring Robert Preston and Rosemary Harris, who won a Tony Award for her portrayal of Eleanor. It was adapted by Goldman into a hit 1968 film of the same name, starring Peter O’Toole and Katharine Hepburn (Hepburn won an Academy Award for Best Actress).
