PlayDay South Orange — that fun family event that closed the streets of South Orange Village and filled them with festivities last September — is back again for a second year.
South Orange Village Center Alliance Director Bob Zuckerman just posted this announcement on his weekly Village Vibe newsletter:
The biggest day of play is coming back to South Orange Avenue! That’s right — PlayDay presented by Rite Aid is back for 2015- and it’s going to be bigger and better than last year’s amazing inaugural event!
On Sunday, September 20th from 1-6 PM we will once again close South Orange Avenue to vehicular traffic, and the Avenue will become a giant playground for kids, tweens, teens and adults alike! If you weren’t able to attend last year, you surely heard about all the great inflatables for the kids as well as the fitness activities, table games, street games, art projects, music, food and dance. It’s the one day of the year when you can literally “play in the street.”
This year, we have a larger footprint for the event, as we’re going all the way up on South Orange Avenue to Rite Aid which will be the new location for the Rite Aid stage. We’ve added more inflatables including human foosball and obstacle courses and we’ve even got remote control Minions! We’ll have more food available on the Avenue from our great South Orange restaurants.
Plus the New Jersey Hall of Fame is bringing their great mobile museum with cool exhibits on some of New Jersey’s most accomplished current and former residents such as Bruce Springsteen, Whitney Houston and Meryl Streep just to name a few.
Of course, we couldn’t put on this event without the very generous support of Rite Aid, our presenting sponsor, and our Area Sponsors. Thank you Rite Aid!
Our good friends at Investors Bank are back as an Area Sponsor this year, so we’d like to acknowledge them as well. We’ve also added some new sponsors.
Natalie Farrell of Weichert Realtors was the first new sponsor to commit to PlayDay, so thank you Natalie!
We also would like to thank our three other new sponsors: Overlook Medical Center, which is part of the Atlantic Health System. You’ll be hearing about the new wellness center that they are opening at the Avenue soon. We’ve also been joined this year by our good friends at BCB Community Bank, who have been very generous sponsors of many events in South Orange, and who just recently celebrated their 15th anniversary here in South Orange! We are also welcoming a wonderful new media sponsor this year, Matters Magazine. And last, but certainly not least, we welcome back Sparkhouse Toys, who provide us with so many great games and activities for the event.
I’ll have more PlayDay details for you in the coming weeks, but I hope I’ve whetted your appetite! So, mark September 20 down on your calendar!
By the way, PlayDay is part of an entire weekend of fun and cool activities that we like to call “Stay and Play Weekend,” and I’ll be writing more about those activities soon.
