The suspect charged with the Saturday bombings in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood and Seaside Heights, NJ attended Columbia High School in Maplewood, according to reports.
Ahmad Khan Rahami, who was captured Monday after a gunfight with police in Linden, NJ, attended his freshman year of high school at CHS in 2003-04 before moving to Edison High School, according to a report in BuzzFeed News. A U.S. citizen who was born in Afghanistan, the 28-year-old lived in Elizabeth, NJ with his family above their chicken restaurant.
The BuzzFeed article quotes Hakeem Ezzouhairy, 27, identified as a former classmate and Maplewood resident, recalling Rahami as a “class clown” who “got along with everyone [and] was a very nice kid.” Ezzouhairy said, “Never would I [have] thought years later he would be capable of something like this.”
Tweets from former CHS classmates show what is apparently Rahami’s yearbook photo.
Rahami has been charged with seven counts, including five counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, according to The New York Times.
