Police Arrest South Orange Woman in Alleged Theft from 7-Eleven on Valley St.

South Orange Police arrested 34-year-old Jalelle Mengesha, a South Orange resident, on Sunday at around 10:50 p.m. for allegedly leaving the 7-Eleven on Valley Street without paying for merchandise, according to this week’s police blotter.

Also on Sunday, police arrested Gerald Smith, a 46-year-old Union resident, at approximately 12:40 p.m. after Smith allegedly left the Rite Aid on South Orange Ave. with unpaid merchandise. Officers found Smith on Irvington Ave., where after a brief foot chase they took him into custody and retrieved the items, police said.

Theft
An employee of Coldstone Creamery stated that on 2-20-16 at approximately 8:00pm four middle-aged woman entered the store, one white female and three black females and while in same one of the woman removed the tip cup and all four exited the store. The tip cup was dropped as they left however, some cash was removed.

Phone snatch
A victim stated that she was walking on Ward Pl. on 2-20-16 at approximately 12:20pm about to enter the campus of the University when an unknown black male described as being in his late teens or early twenties ran up behind her and ripped the victim’s I-phone from her hand. A witness that observed the incident stated that the actor ran from the scene and entered an silver older model SUV which travelled north on Fairview Ave toward S.O. Ave. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Criminal Mischief
Sometime between 5:00pm on 2-12-16 and 9:00am on 2-15-16 an unknown actor(s) had damaged three screens to a building owned by Seton Hall University on Centre St.

2/15/2016
Theft of laptop
An Employee at Seton Hall University stated that sometime between June and this date an unknown actor removed her Mac book laptop from her office in Jubilee Hall.

2/11/2016
Burglary to dwelling
A Blanchard Rd. resident stated that sometime between 2:00pm and 4:30pm on 2-10-16 an unknown actor(s) had entered his residence through an unlocked door and removed a laptop computer, Apple TV unit and a back pack from his dinning room table. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Theft of vehicle
A Montague Pl. resident stated that sometime between the hours of noon and 1:00pm on 2-9-16 an unknown actor(s) removed her vehicle(2016 Chrysler) from her driveway.
