The South Orange Police Dept. posted the following on the blotter on August 10:

This agency is actively investigating a prowler/burglary suspect that was observed in a rear yard of a So. Ridgewood Rd. residence during the early morning hours of Monday 8-8-16.

It is believed that this actor who is being described as a dark or brown skinned male with a low hair cut, 5’10” in height with an athletic build had removed a cell phone from the residence on So. Ridgewood Rd. after entering an unlocked rear door.

A residence in the immediate area had a rear screen to a window cut however, no entry was gained during this incident. It appears this individual is entering the yards of residences between 3:30am and 4:45am. The Detective Bureau is actively investigating this incident while utilizing surveillance footage in addition, there has been an increase of patrol units both marked and unmarked in the affected area.

As stated on numerous occasions, residents should NOT hesitate to immediately notify the Police about any suspicious activity that they observe particularly during said overnight or early morning hours. We strongly encourage homeowners to increase the lighting around their properties (motion sensors for example) and also to incorporate the use of alarm systems coupled with home surveillance cameras both interior and exterior. Crime prevention starts with the hardening of any and all properties and possessions so if you have locks please use them.
