South Orange Resident Surprises Burglar in Her Home

A West End Rd. resident told South Orange Police she discovered a man in her first floor bathroom on Thursday afternoon. The woman was in her basement at shortly after 2 p.m. when she heard someone upstairs, according to this week’s police blotter.

When she went to investigate she found a man in her bathroom, said police. The man ran out the back door and got into a green van parked in the driveway, with another man behind the wheel, police said. There were no signs of a forced entry. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

CDS/Juvenile arrests
Two 17 year old juvenile residents of South Orange were arrested on 8-16-14 at approximately 10:15pm after an officer came upon a vehicle they were parked in on the dead end section of Stewart Pl. and upon doing so discovered the two juveniles to be in possession of CDS (marijuana). Both juveniles were transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

Theft of gas
The manager of the Delta Gas station located adjacent to College Pl. stated that an actor described as being a black male requested $65 of gas to be put into his black Audi and after receiving same fled the station without paying. No other description on the actor or vehicle is available at this time.

Theft of bicycle
A South Orange resident stated that sometime between 8-4-14 and 8-8-14 an unknown actor(s) had removed his men’s blue mountain bike which was locked from the bike rack outside the town pool.

Warrant arrest
Jermaine Newsome, a 40 year old Newark resident was arrested on 8-16-14 after officers observed the subject acting suspiciously on Ward Pl and as a result made a field inquiry with same. During the field inquiry it was discovered that the subject had an outstanding warrant issued for his arrest out of the City of Newark. The subject was placed under arrest without incident and processed accordingly.

Theft of bicycle
A South Orange resident stated that sometime between 9:00am and midnight on 8-14-14 an unknown actor(s) had removed his 10 speed bicycle which had ram horn handle bars and a black cargo rack on the rear from the bike rack at the main train station. The bicycle was locked to the rack at the time of the incident.

Theft from SHU
Sometime between 8-8-14 and 8-13-14 an unknown actor(s) had entered a classroom in Jubilee Hall and removed a hard drive, a memory card and a keyboard from three separate desks.

Warrant arrest
Von Weathers, a 23 year old Irvington resident was arrested on 8-16-14 at approximately 9:00pm after an officer stopped the above subject for having an open container of alcohol while in the park adjacent to the town pool. During the field investigation it was discovered that the subject had an outstanding warrant issued for his arrest out of the Essex County Sheriff’s department. The subject was taken into custody and processed accordingly.

Criminal Mischief

A Valley St. business owner stated that sometime between 6:30pm on 8-12-14 and 9:40am on 8-13-14 an unknown actor(s) had spray painted the side of his building.

Theft from SHU
An employee at Seton Hall University stated that sometime between 8-12-14 and 8-13-14 an unknown actor(s) had entered her office in McNaulty Hall and removed her laptop and power cord. The office was not locked at the time of the incident.

Theft/arrest
Jasmine Latham, a 24 year old Newark resident was arrested on 8-14-14 after Detectives determined that she had been responsible for accessing another’s debit card and removing funds from same back in May of this year. The subject was processed accordingly for the offense and released pending a court date.

Criminal mischief
A South Orange Ave. resident stated that on 8-14-14 at approximately 6:15am she heard her vehicle ( 2003 Jeep) alarm going off and when she looked out her apartment window she discovered her rear passenger window had been smashed and an actor described as being a black male fleeing the scene in a tan colored sedan east on South Orange Ave. No items were believed to have been stolen during the incident.
