Maplewood Police broke up a large fight between two families living in the same multifamily apartment building on Oregon Street on April 6 at around 5:45 p.m.
“Family members of the tenants were involved,” said Capt. Dawn Williams. “It was a dispute between the tenants.”
Police arrested Robert Smith, 26, of Oregon St. for assault with a knife and Corrine Hill-Ugochukwu, a 49-year-old Newark resident for assault with a snow shovel. No one was seriously injured, but one person sustained a minor laceration.
In another incident, a Kensington Terrace resident confronted a man he discovered in his house on April 7 at 1:23 a.m. The man left before police could arrive, said Sgt. Christopher Black. Roughly a half-hour later, David Bracewell, a 49-year-old Newark resident, called the police department and admitted his role in the robbery/burglary, said Black. Police took him into custody and charged him with the crimes.

April 9, 2015; Theft from Auto; Between 6-8 PM a vehicle parked in the Extra Supermarket lot on Irvington Ave was entered and a wallet stolen.
April 11, 2015; Theft from Auto; During the overnight hours a vehicle parked in the driveway of a Van Ness Terrace residence was entered. Cash and checks were reportedly stolen.
April 11, 2015; Theft of Tires; Between 2- 8:30 AM, all four tires were removed from a Toyota Venza that was parked in the driveway of a Prospect St residence.
April 11, 2015; Theft from Auto; Between 6:30 PM and 6:50 AM an unsecured vehicle parked in a driveway on Revere Ave was entered and a laptop stolen.
April 12, 2015; Burglary; Between 5:30 PM and 9:30 AM, entry was forced to a home on Maplewood Ave. Two firearms and costume jewelry were reportedly stolen.
April 13, 2015; Theft; During an undetermined time frame, a license plate was stolen from the rear of a vehicle parked on Kensington Terrace.
