Some of the top cross country teams from across New Jersey met this past Saturday, Sept. 26 at the annual Stewart Memorial Invitational at Greystone Central Park in Morris Plains.
Columbia High School’s boys cross country team placed 6th out of 16 teams in a strong field that saw perennial-power Millburn win the race. The Cougars were led by junior Jared Pangallozzi who finished 9th out of 109 runners in a time of 16:48.64 over the 5K course. Rounding out the scoring by the top 5 runners for the Cougars were senior Gabe Benson in 27th place along with three sophomores – David Ives (16th), Jon Salinardo (48th), and Tim Depue (52nd). Pangallozzi, Ives, and Benson all received medals for their fine race times at Greystone.
Next up for the Cougars will be one of the top invitational XC meets in the country – the Shore Coaches Invitational on Saturday, October 3rd at Holmdel Park, NJ. This course is also the site of the annual New Jersey Group Championships as well as the Meet of Champions.
