I am pleased to offer my endorsement for Donna Smith, a long-time South Orange resident and activist who I’m thrilled is finally running for Board of Education this fall.
Donna works as an attorney in NYC and teaches at Brooklyn Law School, where she connects with students from around the world, at every career stage. As a volunteer in our own district and a strongly engaged parent, she experienced the range of educational challenges and achievements one might expect from having seen three sons through the SOMSD schools. Her advocacy for advanced and accelerated course options recognizes their importance to kids’ motivation and intellectual development, and she supports establishing a G&T program that would address those needs at every age, not just high school.
Donna is a smart lady with good judgment enhanced by a habit of listening carefully to what others have to report. I’m confident she will bring a spirit of high aspirations to her service on the BOE, along with fair and intelligent budget priorities, care for the needs of all our students, and insight when it comes to choosing the next superintendant. I hope you’ll join me and my family in voting for her on November 4th!
