The Parenting Center presents SOMSD 2020: Intentional Integration & Innovation in Our Elementary Schools, An Evening with Dr. Edward Fergus, on October 25, 2018 ~ 7:30 PM at Seth Boyden School Auditorium.
This evening will feature a discussion of our approaches to planning for the reconfiguration of SOMSD elementary schools. Topics will include the District’s vision and goals for this work, and how to leverage nationally-recognized, research-based, best practices as we move toward SOMSD 2020.
Dr. Fergus is an Assistant Professor of Urban Education at Temple University. He is a former high school teacher, evaluator, and community school program director. His current work is on the intersection of educational policy and outcomes with a specific focus on Black and Latino student academic and social engagement outcomes. Dr. Fergus has published numerous articles and books including Solving Disproportionality and Achieving Equity (Corwin Press, 2016). He has worked with over 65 school districts since 2004 on educational equity and school reform. Dr. Fergus is an expert consultant for the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division on Educational Opportunities (2014-present) and NAACP Legal Defense Fund (2018).
